Mrs Tennant's class of 2009

Wow! Mrs Tennant's class has been really busy doing really interesting stuff.  Come and have a look at some of the things they have been doing this year!

Forensic Science

What better way of beginning this subject than visiting the NZ Police College and going into their labs and into the learning areas specifcally designed by the Police to teach new recruits methods of investigation.  The class went to the college and did role playing, crime scenes, finger printing amongst other things.  It was extremely interesting and fun.

Science - Getting ready for college

So that the children could experience real science the classes visited the science labs at Aotea College and the science teachers helped them undertake experiments within a safe environment.  Having the cooperation of Aotea College and staff made this a fantastic learning experience.

Technology

Each Wednesday morning the year 7's and 8's take the bus down to the Plimmerton Technology centre.  Here they are divided into four classes - cooking, woodwork, studio (sewing, design etc) and computers.  They produce some amazing work.

Digital Photography

The children learn how to use a digital camera, download images and then use those images in different art forms.  Here is an example of some of what thay have produced.

Seeing Double!

Another exercise using the digital cameras was to take a phot of yourself in a pose which displays something you enjoy.  Then using traditional art methods the shadow was created showing what you do enjoy.  They look great.

Using Laptops

The school has a wonderful resource of 24 laptops which are available for classroom use.  These are kept of trolleys known as COWS (Computers on Wheels).  It is great to see the children learning using the laptops to create their work.
