Mrs Jones and Ms Boonen's class of 2009

The children in Mrs Jones and Ms Boonen's class have been very busy doing lots of work this year.  Here is a snippet of what they have been doing.

Being Proud of Themselves

When you first start school there are so many new learning experiences.  As well as learning such skills as reading and maths they also learn about life skills including self respect and independence, and also many social skills such as listening and respect for others.  The poster above is all about thinking postive messages about yourself which can have a positive impact on a childs learning.

Statistics

Yes even when they first start school they begin to learn the basics of statistical analysis!!  Starting with a simple question the children can learn how to count, add, produce a simple chart and understand why the chart looks like it does.

Learning to Enjoy Books

Each Wednesday the class goes to the school library and has time to listen to a story and to choose books that they can take home to enjoy.  Each month they also learn about a new author and hear stories from that author during that month.

Boats, Boats and More Boats

The class looked at different types of boats, what they look like and the jobs they are designed for.  This then was used for story writing. The effect of their work is outstanding.  Here is just three samples of what was done.

Keeping up with Technology

Digital cameras are used by all children at the school.  The children pick up how to use them very quickly and then use the photos within their stories.
