Curriculum Vitae's
The children were required to each prepare a CV. They were to include amongst other things what skills they currently have, their aspirations for the future, their talents, a letter from a friend as a reference. This exercise was useful for many reasons including: enhancing ICT skill, self esteem, forward thinking, English skills, cooperation. The end products make interesting reading - I hope they keep them and review them in the years to come.
Maori Art
The children have used their learning of Maori history to inspire them to produce portraits of Maori men and women. I believe we have future Goldie's in our midst. They have also taken a Maori design and given it their individual touch.

Save the Children Market Day
Earlier this year the children in Kauri looked at life for children in other countries. One part which really took the childrens attention was how difficult life is for children in the poverty stricken countries of the world. Rather than just leave it at that classes urged their teachers to help them do something for those children. The result was a market day which the classes organised. As it turned out it was fantastic event for the whole school. Eight stalls were set up and included face painting, jumping castle, fear factor food, sausage sizzle, raffles, food stalls, water slides, sponge throwing, movies with pop corn and the list goes on. The total rasied was around $1450 which will be donated to the charities the children determined would best help ahieve their goal of making lfe better for the children.

The following day the children had the job of counting all the money and getting it ready for banking. A lesson in economics! |
