Mrs Abraham and Mrs Smith's Class of 2008
The Middle Ages
The middle ages formed a comprehensive theme topic this year which provided many learning opportunities. As part of the learning the class made a mural which displayed the various jobs, what the homes looked like, the structure of society etc. It was amazing.

The topic also provided an opportunity to try to write in medieval style. The class were lucky to have the assistance of two artists who have worked on the Lord of the Rings movies. The children worked out that it looked easier than actually doing it -especially with a feather quill.

The Estuary
The class, along with others within the syndicate, studied the topic "the Estuary". The children were made aware of what an estuary is, where one is found, what animals and plant life it contains, and threats to an estuary and what can be done as a conservation project to protect an estuary. At the end of the topic the children visited Battle Hill farm and Pauatahanui Estuary. This provided the opportunity to see what they had learned in a practical way.
These next photos are of projects made for homework using the Estuary theme.

Gravity
This was fun!! To help understand how gravity works the children all took part in building marble tracks. It was messy but it seemed to be something the boys and girls really enjoyed.
Maori Inspired Art
The outcome of this exercise was spectacular. The children had koru designs to decorate and they did this extremely well.

Bike Safety
Children at this age are all learning to ride bikes. Members of the Police came to school to assist the children in learning how to fit helmets correctly and to have the bike at the correct height.
