Mrs Jones's Class of 2008

There is always a lot happening in Mrs Jones's class.  This is only a snippet of work undertaken in the classroom.

Healthy Eating

The children are encouraged to keep themselves safe.  Part of this is the need to look after yourself and to eat healthily.  The children looked at the food pyramid and worked out good things to have in their lunch boxes. The children are having 'brain food' breaks at 10am to help the get through the morning.

How Milk and Butter is Made

This is an exciting topic for the children. From visiting a farmyard where they could see a cow being milked to making butter which they could eat was all part of this interesting topic which everyone took to with enthusiasm.

Before starting to make butter you
need to wash your hands

Pour cream into a container that
can be shaken

Shake the cream vigorously.
It's easier if you take turns!

All made - now comes the best
part-eating it on crackers
with friends.

Making reading Fun

Learning to read is such an important part of school life.  The children get involved in reading through the day in their work, taking part in reading groups, doing silent reading, taking books home to read, going to the library to listen to stories and to choose books for themselves.  Each month Mrs Jones also chooses an author and displays their works.  These books are read to the children during the month.

Where in the World are We

Having the Olympics on provided an opportune time to show the children the world map and to point out where NZ is.

Taking Opportunities to learn to Write Stories

Having the use of digital cameras and computers provides more opportunitiesfor the children to write stories.  An example of this is at the school swimming sports where photos provided the children with a theme to write their stories on.
